Today you will venture out to the suburbs of Colombo towards Korathota where you will visit a traditional Angampora school. Angampora is the traditional martial art of Sri Lanka and dates back thousands of years. Master Ajantha the head of the school will introduce you to the martial art, its traditions, weapon as well as the healing and medicinal aspect of this art. The students will thereafter perform a demonstration using hand to hand and weapons used in this art along with traditional drums and instruments. The master will also teach you some meditation techniques as well as some basic methods of self-defense. You will be served a traditional vegetarian lunch along with drinking water bottles.

After breakfast, leave for Mannar.

In the afternoon, visit the Dutch Fort in Mannar, the Doric House Bungalow and the ruined remains of the Arrippu Fort.

After breakfast, leave for Jaffna visiting the ruined remains of the Pooneryn Fort en-route.

In the afternoon, go on a guided tour of Jaffna town visiting some of its iconic sites such as the Dutch Fort, The Old Clock Tower, Jaffna Library and the St. Mary’s Church.

Spend the full day exploring the Jaffna peninsula visiting some of its iconic sites which include the Nallur Kandasamy Kovil, Kantharodai, Point Pedro – the island’s northern most point, Keerimilai Hot Springs, Vallipuram Kovil and the ruined old St. Anthony’s Church.

Today, you will travel by road to Kayt’s and then take the local government run ferry across to Delft Island. Spend the day exploring Delft Island.

Spend the morning exploring the historic sites of Trincomalee. You will visit the Commonwealth War Cemetery along with the Dutch Fort, Konneswaram Temple on Swami Rock and the hot springs in Keerimilai.

Checkout after an early breakfast and leave for Anuradhapura, where you will go on a guided tour. Anuradhaopura was the country’s first capital comprising of religious places of worship and Buddhist shrines constructed by the past kings of Sri Lanka.

Afterwards, check-in to your hotel and spend the remainder of the day at leisure.

After breakfast, drive to Sigiriya and climb the iconic Sigiriya Rock Fortress. Visit the palace ruins of King Kassapa which was constructed on top of a massive 200 meter high rock surrounded by the remains of an extensive network of gardens, frescoes of half-naked women and other structures.

Afterwards, return to the hotel and spend the remainder of the afternoon at leisure.

Optional: In the afternoon, visit Minneriya or Kaudulla National Park to view ‘The Gathering of Elephants’ which is a seasonal congregation of elephants that takes place between June through to November. During other times of the year, Elephants can be seen at the Hurullu Forest Reserve.

After breakfast, leave for Polonnaruwa and take a guided tour of this capital. Polonnaruwa took its place in history after King Vijayabahu I defeated the invading Cholas and moved the capital from Anuradhapura to Polonnaruwa. It is renowned for its well-preserved 12th century ruins and impressive stone culture.

Afterwards, return to your hotel and spend the remainder of the evening at leisure.

Morning, leave for Kandy stopping en-route at the Dambulla Cave Temple, which is famous for its rock paintings and is among the best preserved monastic temple cave complexes in Sri Lanka.

Upon arrival in Kandy, check-in at your hotel.

In the late afternoon, go on a guided tour of the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic. The sacred tooth relic of the Buddha was smuggled in to Sri Lanka from India by a princess in the 4th century AD and was initially kept in Anuradhapura and then moved across the country over time before being housed in Kandy. This sacred temple attracts thousands of white-clad pilgrims on a daily basis bearing lotus blossoms and frangipani for their offerings which are known as pujas.

After breakfast, leave for Colombo, the country’s capital and commercial hub of Sri Lanka.

In the afternoon, go on the Colombo City Walk, which takes you through a myriad of buildings around the Pettah and Fort area that date back from 17th – 19th centuries which were erected mainly during the periods of Dutch and British rule. With the dawn of the post conflict times, we see the tremendous effort being put into this area to refurbish and bring these buildings to their hay-day wondrous state.
